The games that defined two separate eras: the arcade cabinet years, and the browser years that followed them. Snake, Pong, Breakout, block-stacking, maze chases — designs from the 1970s and 80s that are still being played because the underlying idea was simply correct the first time, and no amount of extra hardware has improved on it.

Everything in this category is a modern HTML5 build rather than an emulator or an old Flash file. That distinction matters: browsers switched Flash off for good at the end of 2020 and took an entire generation of browser games with it, so what survives is what somebody chose to rebuild.
